Rudy Senich, 94, of Duluth, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016.
Rudy was born June 10, 1922, in Calumet, Minn., and grew up in Carson Lake near Hibbing. He graduated from Hibbing High School and then attended North Dakota State University for the pharmacy program. He went on to become the owner of Lion Drug in Duluth's West End, which he owned for many years.
During World War II, Rudy served his country as a bombardier with the Jolly Rogers in the Southwest Pacific, flying 48 missions.
Rudy was a well-known avid softball pitcher and manager, being inducted into the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame in 1982, and he also loved curling, being very active in the Duluth Curling Club.
Rudy belonged to numerous fraternal organizations, including the All-American Club, American Legion, VFW, Italian American Club, Masons and Elks Club. He was also a member of St George, Serbian Orthodox Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Stoya "Stella" (Winovich) ; wife Angie; daughter Barb; son Steve; brothers Bronko, Nick and Steve; and his sister, Mary.
Rudy is survived by his sons, Rudie and Peter; grandchildren Ben and his mother, Kirsten, and Dru, Wyatt, Sadie and Rylee and their mother, Renee; brother Marko (Louise); and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends, especially two of his dearest friends, Walt Peterson and Don Olson.
The family would like to thank the staff at Keystone Bluffs for their excellent care that Rudy received.
VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, in Dougherty Funeral Home and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, Nov. 10, in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 1216 104th Ave. W. Duluth, MN 55808.
