Russell James Buran age 73 of Duluth died on April 2, 2025. He was born in Duluth, MN on August 22, 1951 to parents, Robert and Besse (Peterson) Buran. A lifelong Duluthian, Russell graduated from Central High School in 1971. He enlisted in the Navy and proudly served his county on the USS Camden during the Vietnam War. His heart was always somewhere between a gravel road and the bend of a trout stream. From the time he could walk, he was fishing—brook trout with his dad and brother. Fall meant Lake Winnie. Spring meant Gunflint, casting lines and making memories with his boys, Matt and Kris. He was the third generation to work in produce, carrying forward a family tradition with quiet pride and unwavering dedication. He retired as produce manager from Super One in 2014. He was a tinkerer by nature, always elbow-deep in a project, whether it was rebuilding a carburetor or figuring out how to get one more season out of something most people would’ve sent to the junkyard. While shooting pool, he met Kathryn Tarnowski. After making her wait until after deer season, he called her for a date. Thankfully she waited, and on September 27, 1980, they got married, sharing a wonderful 44-year marriage. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; boys, Matt and Kris (Lindsey); grandson, Theodore; brother, Dale (Penny); best friends, John Carlson and Jack Renick.
