Ruth Pehl

January 24, 1928 — December 21, 2021

Ruth Lillian Pehl, 93, formerly of Hermantown, Minnesota went home to Jesus Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Aftenro Home, Duluth, Minnesota.

Ruth was born on January 24, 1928 in Duluth to Axel Peterson and Albertina Johnson.  She was the oldest of 3 children.

She moved to Hermantown at age 4 and lived there for 85 years until she moved to Aftenro Home in 2017.   She was so thankful for the entire staff and the friendships she made. She sang in the Aftenro choir, attended the Bible studies, loved the services in the chapel and participated in many activities.  The staff and Kindred  Hospice were very supportive.

She was a proud 1946 graduate of Hermantown High School where she participated in class plays and was a cheerleader.  Even a few weeks ago, surrounded by her family, she proudly sang the Hermantown School song and gave us a cheer!  She also sang the Swedish Anthem!

In 1946 she married Robert (Bob) Pehl and was a loving homemaker to their three children, Sharon, Bobbie and Jim.   After their children were grown, she babysat several children.

She has been a member of First Covenant Church for 46 years and was baptized at Park Lake, Covenant Bible Camp in Mahtowa, MN.  Through the years she helped with Sunday School, Cradle Roll and Covenant Women.

She was one of the founding members of the Hermantown Historical Society, was the historian for the Solway Senior Citizens Club, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW #137 and Salem Seniors.

Ruth was loved by her large family and is survived by her children, Sharon (David) Morris of Parker, CO; Roberta (Lionel) Bardier of Sterling, IL, James (Dawn Platner) Pehl of Alborn, MN; grandchildren, Jamie Lawrence of Laguna Beach, CA, Becky (Philip) Pringle of Greeley, CO, Jody Kauppinen (Matt Gunnarson) of Hermantown, MN, Jill (Adan) Ramirez of Sterling, IL, Scott Morris of Waldon, CO, James (Katie) Pehl of Cottage Grove, MN.  12 great-grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, several step great grandchildren; niece, Mary (Warner) Brickhead of Gloucester, VA; nephews, Thomas Peterson of Plymouth, MN; Scott Peterson of Duluth, MN; and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Axel and Albertina; step-mother, Beatrice Peterson; former husband, Robert Pehl; daughter-in-law, Gail Gregorich; sister, June Miller; brother-in-law, Virgil Miller; brother, Robert Peterson; sister-in-law, Edith Peterson; step sister, Delores Senarighi, and special friend, Marvin Lofald.

May the Lord bless her memory.  Ruth’s famous words were “I’m thankful and blessed and I pray for everybody”.
