Scott David Toland

Scott David Toland, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away peacefully at Aspirus Wausau Hospital on August 30, 2023, at the age of 64.

Scott was born February 6, 1959, in Duluth, MN; son of Clarence and Pearl (Beck) Toland. He grew up in the area, attending local schools and graduating from Central High School (Duluth, MN) in 1977.

After high school, Scott immediately joined the workforce. He was a hard worker and built his own towing company; Scotty’s Towing. He owned and operated his business for 37 years in Duluth, MN and Superior, WI. More recently, he drove a dump truck for Fleet Transportation, in Wisconsin Rapids, and enjoyed his work. When Scott wasn’t at work, he was home, being a loving husband and father, and eventually, grandfather. He married the love of his life, Deborah Thomas, and the two celebrated 22 blissful years together.

Scott was an expressive man, making sure those around him knew he cared for them. In fact, he was like the “Mayor” in his neighborhood, often inviting everyone over for neighborhood get-togethers. He was the King of Bloody Mary’s, often whipping up his own special recipe to share. Scott also enjoyed sitting by the campfire, double checking scratch offs and pull tabs, and could spot a deal a mile away and flip anything for a profit! Scott also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Minnesota Wild hockey team, and was an avid golfer. Most importantly, Scott was a kind hearted man who took pride in helping others, often diagnosing car issues over the phone. He truly was a gentle giant with a heart of gold.

Scott is lovingly survived by his wife, Deborah; his son, Christopher (Jamey) Toland; his daughters, Andrea, Melissa, and Hannah Toland; his step-sons, Jeffrey (Denise) Ditman and Ryan (Amanda Farris) Ditman; his grandchildren, Brooke, Derek, and Lavee; and his step-grandchildren, Tyson, Jonathan, and Dominick. He is further survived by his brother, Richard Toland; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan (Chris), David (Sharon), Dean (Stephanie), and Darrin (Brenda) Thomas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Pearl Toland; his brothers, Tommy and Gary Toland; his sisters-in-law, Pat, Sandra, and Nancy Toland; and his parents-in-law, Aaron and Dorothy Thomas.

Scott’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Aspirus Wausau Hospital’s C-ICU; the nursing staff, the support staff, Dr. John Johnkoski, and Dr. Thomas Howard. Additionally, they would like to thank Mary Nelson and Scott’s wonderful neighbors for all of their loving support during this difficult time.
