Shirley Mackereth

November 29, 1933 — September 26, 2017

Shirley Ann Mackereth was born on November 29, 1933 in Caledonia, North Dakota. She graduated from Caledonia High School in 1951 and then attended business college in Fargo, North Dakota for two years. Shirley’s career took her to Duluth, Minnesota where she met the love of her life, Glenn Mackereth, and they married in 1955. They loved to dance, entertain friends and spend time with family. Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenn “Mac” Mackereth, parents Richard and Pearl (Stanley) Stigen, sister Janice McCoy, brothers Deane Stigen, Robert Stigen, and Lloyd Stigen. She is survived by sons Randi (Patrice) Mackereth of Pike Lake, MN, Daryll (Denise) Mackereth of St. Louis Park, MN, daughter Kelly (Steve Ehrman) Mackereth of Littleton, CO, grandchildren David (Lindsey), Janelle (Jeremy) Exell, Scott; Brian, Robert, Sarah, Katherine; Michael (Ashley), Lizzy Lombritto; great grand-children Marley and Stevie Mackereth; Kash Murray and Kyrah Rae Lombritto; sisters Betty Johnson, Jean (Donovan) Wright, brothers Zane Stigen, Daryll Stigen, sister-in-law Monte Stigen.

Shirley decided early in her life that she wanted to travel and her career as a travel agent at Pantour Travel Agency enabled her to tour Europe, Asia and Australia. Shirley was the church organist at Pike Lake Presbyterian Church for 23 years where she was a member. Shirley valued her faith in God, her love of family and friends, being generous to others, and treating her grandchildren (and her husband) like royalty. Her warm hospitality was experienced by all that knew her. Everyone that visited the Mackereth home was offered good food, libations, friendly conversation and, if you dared, a competitive card game.

Memorial Service: 1 p.m. October 7, 2017 at Pike Lake Community Church, 5611 Martin Rd., Duluth, MN 55811. There will be a time of food and fellowship after the service. Memorials are preferred to the Canosia Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements are by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd St., Duluth, MN 55805, 218-727-3555.
