Steven “Stavros” Edward Nelson, 68, of Esko, died peacefully Sunday, May 15, 2016.
Stavros was born April 1, 1948 to Clifford and Helen. He spent his childhood in Knife River, and he graduated from Two Harbors High School. After high school he joined the Coast Guard where he served in search and rescue, ice breaking, and lighthouse keeping. After his active duty time he became a letter carrier for the US Post Office
Stavros enjoyed, hunting, fishing, trapping, cribbage, and taking care of his farm. He was a very active member of the Twelve Holy Apostles Church, where he especially enjoyed cooking souvlaki for the festivals
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Matthew.
Stavros is survived by wife, Karen (Kalliope); children, Kimberly (Matthew) Dyke, Sara (Judd) Johnson; grandchildren, Megan, Morgan, Gabriel, Maximos, Kalliope, and Thomas; sisters, Dolores, and Lori, numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be 5-7PM, Wednesday, May 18, 2016, with 7PM Trisagion service, with the funeral service beginning at 11AM, Thursday, in the Twelve Holy Apostles Church 632 E 2nd St, Duluth, MN 55805.
