Stig H. Antonson, 89, of Lakeside, died Friday, January 31, 2014 in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Stig was born October 2, 1924 in Dahlsing, Sweden to Ivan and Helga Antonson and they came to Duluth when Stig was a toddler. He served on a hospital ship as a corpsman during WW II. Stig worked for US Steel for many years and started his security career with Midwest Patrol and retired as head of security for St. Luke's Hospital. After retiring, Stig volunteered at St. Luke's for 17 years.
Stig was a member of the American Legion; he loved to golf, watch the Duluth Duke's and Duluth Huskies and watch football and baseball. Stig married Jane Pero on September 6, 1985 and their love showed right to the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Helga and his brother, Roy.
Stig is survived by his wife, Jane; children, Stan, Tom (Marguerite), Greg, Kathy, Wanda (Dan) Hinrichs and Bryan; step daughter, Sharrie Behl; brothers, Boe (Joanie), Roger (Ella) and Bruce (Kathy); sister, Lorraine Wisneiwski; grandchildren, Tony, Ann, Tanya, Shane, Robert, Vanessa, Chris, Justin and Robin; 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Stig will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 10am to the 11am service at Mount Olive English Lutheran Church, 2012 E Superior St. Duluth. Military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard to Follow.
