Susan Scherer

February 21, 1936 — March 11, 2014

Susan Ness (Sebo) Scherer (78), Born in Duluth, MN on February 21, 1936, she was the daughter of Rudy and Clara Sebo, both teachers. She grew up ice skating and spending time with her family in southern Minnesota at their dairy farm; Mrs.Scherer was an only child but grew up with numerous cousins.

Mrs. Scherer was very involved in ice skating. She began her training in Duluth, often attending summer programs at universities in other states, such as one at the University of Denver (Colorado) when she was 17. She attended the University of Minnesota - Duluth, the University of California at Berkley and Colorado Collage on ice skating scholarships. While at Colorado College, she trained at the Broadmoor and continued competing and in 1958 was the bronze medalist for ice dancing at the US Nationals withher partner Tim Brown. She graduated from Colorado College in 1959 with a degree in art history. She began teaching at the Cleveland Skating Club that same year, where she worked with Mr. Pieter Kollen.She and Mr. Kollen competed in the World Professional Figure Skating Competition, the first year it washeld in the US.

On August 25, 1962, Mrs. Scherer married Robert G. Scherer at The Pilgrim Congregational Church in DuluthMN. They resided in Cleveland, where they adopted their son. In 1969, they moved to Mr. Scherer'shometown of Louisville, KY, where four years later they adopted their daughter. Mrs. Scherer was a homemaker, and very active in the educational and athletic pursuits of her children. She continued tooccasionally serve as a judge for United States Figure Skating Association competitions, she was an active tennis player at the Louisville Boat Club and a golfer at Owl Creek Country Club, after her husband passed away, she stayed active volunteering at the Speed Museum; enjoying social events at the Pendennis Club; ice skating with Moms on Ice; and travelling to France, Spain, Mexico, and Japan.

Mrs. Scherer was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by, her son and daughter-in-law, Grainger Scherer and Jessica Sweeney, and her daughter, Mathia Scherer.

Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Animal Allies Humane Society (http //www.animalallies.net/) or the Wounded Warrior Project (http.//www.woundedwarriorproject org/).

Visitation- will be 1 PM until the start of the service beginning 2 PM on Saturday March 15, 2014 at the Dougherty Funeral Home
