Ted Pratchios passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Ecumen Lakeshore in Duluth, MN.
He was born April 24, 1920 to Asterios and Helen Pratchios in Eveleth, Minnesota.
He was raised in Duluth and graduated from Central High School. As a teenager, Ted was well known for his prize-winning flying model airplanes. His most notable was an endurance contest win where his airplane landed forty miles away and was returned to him.
Ted joined the US Marines and served in World War II in the Pacific Theater. He served in Korea and two tours in Vietnam with the Fifth Marine Division. His Marine Corps Career spanned 34 years and he retired in 1975 as a First Sergeant. After retirement, Ted settled in Kailua, Hawaii and earned his FAA Airframe and Power Plant license returning to his love of repairing airplanes. In 1994 Ted returned to Duluth with his wife Harue.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Harue Eleni Pratchios and his brothers, Jim and Tom Pratchios.
Survivors include his son, John (Lynn) Pratchios; his daughter, Miste Newport; his grandchildren, Ted (Wendy) Pratchios, Tom Pratchios, Jonathan Pratchios, Angelyn (Andrew) Gay, Abby Pratchios, Marc (Liann) Jackson, Heather (Mark) Thompson, April (Josh) Crowley,
Tara (Nate) Kraft, and Ashley Newport; 27 great grandchildren; one great grandchild; his brothers George "Footie" (Anna) Pratchios, Paul (Anne) Pratchios and his sister, Nina Callas.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 from 5-7 PM ending with a Trisagion at 7:00 PM in the Dougherty Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 15, 2014 in the Twelve Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church.
Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Duluth.
