Theodore Griak

Theodore "Ted" Griak, 82, of Gary New Duluth, passed away on Tuesday December 1, 2015 at the Solvay Hospice House with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Duluth to Stojan and Dorothy Griak on September 13, 1933. Ted graduated from Morgan Park High School Class of 1951. He married Carol Matetich in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, on May 1, 1960 in Duluth. Ted was a Korean War Air Force Veteran. He retired from the City of Duluth as the Manager of Street and Parks Maintenance in 1991, after 34 years of service. Ted was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Life member of the VFW Post 137, American Legion Post 71, All American Club, Gary New Duluth Community Club, Lake Avenue Loafers, Past President of ASCME 66, Past President of the Arrowhead District Council 96, Past President of the Supervisors Union City of Duluth, and a Board Member of P.E.R.A... Ted coached little league baseball in the 1960's with Rudy Bubalo, he went to Flin Flon, MB to fish for many years with Kenny Turnboom, he put on a wild game feed every fall for 25 years, and enjoyed his many hunting trips across the Midwest.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents, nephew Ray Rizzi Jr., and brother-in-law Ray Rizzi Sr.
Ted is survived by his wife of 55 years Carol, sisters Helen Rizzi and Donna Bewley, brother-in-laws George (Margo) Matetich, and Milan Matetich, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday December 5, 2015 from 10AM until the 11AM Funeral Service in Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church.
