Theodore Lee

Theodore J. (Ted) Lee, 84, of Duluth, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Cloquet Memorial Hospital. Ted Lee was born Nov. 19, 1927 in Pasco, Wash., the son of Bertram and Marie (Palmer) Lee. He moved to Duluth as a child. He was a 1945 graduate of Duluth Central High School and graduated from University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1949 with a degree in Business Administration. Ted was a life insurance consultant and executive. He was an independent agent from 1950-1996, and supervised many corporate and union pensions, health and welfare plans, and the individual insurance of many Duluthians. Busy in professional affairs, he was a past president of the Arrowhead Association of Life Underwriters. He was the first Chartered Life Underwriter in Duluth, achieving that through self study. He was listed in Whos Who in the Midwest as being instrumental in the creation of the School of Business Administration at UMD. Ted was a longtime member of the Kitchi Gammi Club, and had held various offices over the years as a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church. He was also a loyal member of the University for Seniors, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and also did other volunteer work. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Heinzen Lee, who died in 1995. He is survived by his five children, Geoffrey Bruce Lee of Atlanta, Nancy Jean Lee of St. Paul, Susan Jane Lee-Bartlett of Berlin, Wis., John Keith Lee of Minnetonka, and Barbara Ann Lee of New York City and 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. VISITATION: 10 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 until the 11 a.m. Memorial Service in Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2310 East Fourth Street, Duluth. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home (218) 727-3555.
