Thomas Fearnall

February 15, 1928 — January 10, 2018

The family of Thomas Edward Fearnall, 89, of Duluth, is heartbroken to announce that he died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center.  He was born February 15, 1928 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to Albert E. and Evelyn H. (Danard) Fearnall.  He married the love of his life, Evelyn M. Copeland in 1951.  Tom retired in 1989 as Comptroller Treasurer for the Duluth-Winnipeg-Pacific Railroad.  For many years he was an active member of Fond Du Lac Community church.  He was a member of the Duluth Curling Club for over 40 years and passed the love of curling onto his children and grandchildren.  He was also a member at Nemadji Golf Course.   He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Norma, Betty and May.  Tom is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn; his son Richard Dean (Sherri) Fearnall of Duluth; his daughters Judith Leslie (Timothy) McLeod of Esko and Brenda Lee Gilbert Anderson (Damon) of Duluth; six grandchildren:  Erin (Nate) Hendrickson, Coryl Fearnall, Connor (Amanda) McLeod, Danielle (Benjamin) Morse, Ashley Fearnall (Brandon) and Sarah (Jed) Bandle; five great-grandchildren, Isaac, Dominic, Caleb, Chloe & Arie; his brother Gilbert Fearnall of London, Ontario; several nieces and nephews.  Tom was a true gentleman with a heart of gold.  His greatest pride was his family.  He was quick to joke, and always so optimistic and positive.  He has been deeply a part of all of his grandchildren's lives right up until the day he died - and they all adored and respected him.  Tom was proud of his Canadian heritage and encouraged all his children and grandchildren to travel and stay connected to their roots in Canada. Visitation:  5–6pm, Celebration of Life Service 6-7pm Monday, January 15, 2018 at Dougherty Funeral Home.  If so desired, memorial donations may be directed to Second Harvest North Food Shelf or Damiano Center of Duluth.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St., Duluth, 218-727-3555.
