Thomas Alan Fremont age 77 of Duluth died unexpectedly on February 19, 2023. He was born in Grand Rapids, MN on July 29, 1945 to parents, George “Bud” & Eleanor “Nellie” (Nelson) Fremont. Education was a constant throughout Tom’s life; both as a student and an educator. He graduated from Greenway High School in 1963, Itasca Junior College in 1965, and UMD in 1968. He went on to teach Business Education in Sturgeon Bay, WI; Floodwood, MN; and Duluth East and Denfeld High School. One of Tom’s proudest achievements was helping to establish and teaching the LSPI Project at Denfeld from 1991-2002. The LSPI Project was recognized as a Best Practice Program by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.
Tom loved all things sports. He ran the Duluth East youth basketball program for 20 years, supervised the intramural program, and was the voice of basketball and volleyball games at Duluth East for 31 years. He was an avid member of the Jim Smart Summer Golf League, and golfed every moment he could. Tom could often be found in the stands of a UMD sporting event. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and reading. But of all the things in his life, Tom’s greatest joy was his family. He married the love of his life, Susan Riccelli on June 14, 1969, and they raised two children together. Tom’s love grew with the addition of each grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Susan. Tom is survived by his children, Ross Fremont, and Gina (Brandon) Cole; grandchildren, Ethan & Dylan Cole; brothers, Terry (Jean) and Greg (Betty) Fremont.
VISITATION: Saturday, February 25, 2023, in the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1325 N 45th Ave E, Duluth, from 10:00 am until the start of the Memorial Service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
