Thomas A. Slattery, 89, formerly of Duluth, passed away in Clearwater, Fla., on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, surrounded by his daughters and many of his grandchildren. He was born July 19, 1922 in Ely, Minn., the son of Thomas A. and Mary (Clothilde) Slattery. He moved to Duluth as a child and lived most of his life there in the city he loved. He was a graduate of Duluth Cathedral High School and a World War II veteran, serving in the South Pacific for two years. He returned to Duluth after the war and met and married the love of his life Helen Asher and raised four children. His career was spent working for the Northern Pacific Railroad, the Northern Pacific Railroad Employees Credit Union and the Association of American Railroads. He was preceded in death by his parents, most of his siblings and his wife Helen who passed away in 2010. He is survived by his brother, James Slattery, Park Point; his daughters Denise (Chris) Simmons, Largo, Fla., Janis (Tim) Eggen, Largo, Fla.; his sons Larry (Mary), Cloquet, Minn., and Kevin (Nina) Shorewood, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Amy, Jessica, Timmy, Andrea, Brianne, Matt, Brittany, Kacey, Thomas and Michael and six great grandchildren. VISITATION: 10 am.. Thursday with services at 11 a.m. in the Thomson - Dougherty Funeral Home, at 2535 Park Ave., Minneapolis.
