Valerie L’Abbé

Valerie Ann L’Abbé (Val) ,62 passed on July 20th, 2019. Val  was the daughter of Dr. Philip and Grace L'Abbé. She was a graduate of Duluth East High School class of 1974. Valerie loved tennis and achieved great success in her teen years playing in local and statewide tournaments.  She received her RN from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Duluth and her BSN from Bethel. Valerie was an RN in Duluth and the Twin Cities. She was an accomplished baker and loved to spend her time with her family. She was an extraordinary mother, never missed a practice or a game. She loved to sew and created most of her daughters’ skating competition outfits. She cheered on her skaters, her hockey player and her chess champion! Val was president of Rathman Electric for many years. She is survived by her son Eric (Alexandra) Rathman, daughters Katherine (Kate) and Anne Rathman, brothers and sisters: Philip L'Abbé  Stephen (Jean) L'Abbé, Michelle (David) Berg, Lorraine L'Abbé (Jeffrey Smith) ,Yvonne L’Abbé (Mark Harrell) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Carl Rathman her sister Denise L’Abbé and her parents. The family asks for memorials to be made by donation to either the Brain Support Network (brainsupportnetwork.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).

Visitation will be Friday, July 26, 2019 at 10:00 AM followed by 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E 4th Street.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 218-727-3555.
