Virginia Hoch

Virginia Elaine (Sandwick) Hoch, of Edina, Minn., passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Virginia was born in Duluth on May 31, 1921. Her parents were Andrew Sandwick and Emma (Enstrom) Sandwick. She graduated from Denfeld High in 1939. Virginia married Roland Joseph Hoch, Jr. on Oct. 26, 1939. The couple resided in Duluth until 1965, when they moved to Pittsburgh, Pa. While living in Duluth, she was involved in many activities including womens golf -member at Enger Park, and Ridgeview and Northland country clubs. She is a founding member of the Pike Lake Pikers ladies golf group. After moving to Pittsburgh, Virginia took up paintings of oil and pastel pictures. She studied under the renowned Henry Koerner and studied in France and Austria. She is predeceased in death by her brothers, Rudolph (Sandy), Emmett, and Leonard and by her sister, Ethel. She is survived by her sons, Roland F. Hoch (Joan Sundquist) of Tucson, Ariz. and Gary W. Hoch (Marilyn Turnquist) of Edina, and five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 1 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 in the church of her confirmation nearly 75 years ago, the Church of the Holy Trinity at 2701 West 3rd Street. Visitation with the family will be at 12 noon in the Church. The family request no flowers and any memorials contributed in Virginias memory be given to a charity of the donors preference.
