Virginia Johnson, 78, of Duluth, passed away on Monday October 6, 2014 in St. Luke's Hospital. She was born to Linnae and Orville Johnson on June 27, 1936. Ginny graduated from Denfeld as President of the Power Club. She worked as a waitress on the North Shore in the summer where she met Ellen Tofte, a lifelong friend. They graduated together from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. Ginny worked at St. Luke's for many years in the ICU and Colbalt Therapy. She worked for the Red Cross traveling and teaching nursing. Ginny then became Director of Nursing at Lake Haven Manor for 27 years, "The Best Job a Girl Could Ever Have". Ginny and her sister Jo especially enjoyed the cabin and supporting the women's UMD hockey program. She and Jo enjoyed a long and active retirement, with winters in Fort Meyers, FL and traveling with the grandkids.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents and a sister JoAnn Johnson.
Ginny is survived by her children JoLynn (Stephen) Cooper of Williams, MN, and Bill Butler of Duluth, her grandchildren Hope, Joe and Ryan, and her great-granddaughter Bella.
Visitation will be held on Friday October 10, 2014 from 10AM until the 11AM Celebration of Life in the Duluth Congregational Church, 3383 E. Superior, St. Duluth, MN 55804.
