Vivian Galeski

December 28, 1930 — January 2, 2016

Vivian Galeski, 85, of Duluth, died in Duluth Saturday, January 2, 2016. She was born in Duluth on December 28, 1930 to Toini (Lemberg) and Christ Lund. Vivian was a lifelong resident of Duluth and graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1948. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, served on the youth board, was involved in making soap which the church then shipped around the world, sang in the church choir during its first performance of the Good Friday service, "The Seven Last Words of Christ", and she also helped out at the Domiano Center's Soup Kitchen. Vivian worked at the YMCA, Glass Block (later Younkers), and the Finn-Am Boutique.
She cherished being a mother and loved her family immensely.
Among Vivian's happiest moments were at home when she was cooking or baking. She enjoyed sharing her recipes with her neighbors, other church members, and many others.
She was proud of her Finnish heritage, interested in its customs, and made two trips to Finland to visit relatives and enhance her awareness of the Finnish life.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father Philip Saporito; and her husband of 60 years Robert John Galeski on August 19, 2008, who also died shortly after his 85th birthday.
Vivian is survived by her sons: Michael of Shoreview, Minn. and Paul "Chip" (Linda) of Duluth Township; two granddaughters: Sara (Rob) Haveri of Duluth Township, and Jennifer (Mike) Anderson of Duluth: two great-grandchildren Logan Haveri and Madison Haveri of Duluth Township; and her sister-in-law Elizabeth "Bette" Kinghorn of Yukon, Oklahma.
Visitation: Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery. Memorials directed to First Lutheran Church Radio Fund, or First Lutheran Church Archives, 1100 E. Superior St., Duluth, MN. 55812 would be appreciated.
