Walter Fischer (80) of Duluth died November 5, 2023 at home in Duluth, Minnesota. He was born May 2, 1943 to Charles and Olga (Jarosz) Fischer in Park Falls Wisconsin.
Walt grew up in Butternut Wisconsin. He received numerous degrees from the University of Wisconsin Superior. July 9th 1966 he married Corita “Corey” Schwingle Fischer. Together they had three children. Walt is preceded in death by his parents, brother and sisters.
Walt began his education in Duluth as a Civics teacher at Washington Junior 1966-1970. ln 1970 he became Minnesota’s youngest High School Principal while at Bigfork, MN. For nearly 50 years, he served as Principal at New Auburn, WI, Granton, Wl, Carlton, MN, Greenbush MN, Tower-Soudan, MN, Cotton MN, and ended his career as principal of St. Rose School, Proctor, MN.
He is survived by his wife Corey of 57 years, and his children, Scott (Lori), Chanhassen, MN, Angela (Kevin) Bonser, Chesapeake, VA, and Matt (Michelle), Sun Prairie, Wl; grandchildren, Gareth, Teja, Elizabeth, Ashlie, Haylie, Kaitelynn, Aeryial, Chas and lan.
Walt was an active Knight of Columbus and served as Grand Knight, District Deputy, Faithful Navigator, and Faithful Admiral.
VISITATION will be Thur., Nov. 9th from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 6:30 p.m. in Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E Second Street, Duluth.
MASS OF CHRISTAIN BURIAL: Fri., Nov. 10th at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. in St. Rose Catholic Church, 2 Sixth Avenue, Proctor, MN 55810 with Fr. James Bissonette officiating. Graveside service at St. Cecelia Cemetery, Butternut, WI on Sat., Nov. 11 at 11:00 am with Deacon Robert Schienebeck officiating.
