Walter Albert Fulton

Walter Albert Fulton passed away on September 4, 2023. He was born to Mabel (Pearthree) Fulton and Walter Albert Fulton on September 6, 1933 in Aitkin, MN.

Walt grew up one block from the railroad tracks in McGregor, MN. His father was a coal dock operator for Northern Pacific Railroad. This influenced his life-long love of the railroad and HO Gauge model trains.

Walt graduated from McGregor High School in 1953 and was then drafted into the United States Army. He served his country in the Korean Conflict until 1955. When returning stateside he acquired a job in Duluth, MN as an architectural draftsman.

In 1956 Walt met the love of his life, Darlene Faye Jacobson. They were married after 6 months of courtship.

After 20 years of drafting, Walt accepted the engineering position at Minnesota Power. He worked there until he retired in 1993. Retirement allowed him to continue hand-crafting his extensive model railroad in his home; work as an inspector for the then Township of Rice Lake; and assist in the layout of a model railroad at the St. Louis County Depot. He also volunteered as a conductor on the North Shore Scenic Railroad where he was known for his entertaining wit.

Walt is survived by his wife: Darlene Fulton; children: Julie (Salvador) Chavez, Linda (Alan) Marshall and Gary (Sandy) Fulton; grandchildren: Nathanael (Dee) Clark, Joseph (Jennifer Fate) Clark, Jennifer Marshall, AJ Marshall, Kristy (Joby Furo) Marshall and Steven Fulton; and great grandchildren: Zachary, Kaleb, Nolan and Layla Clark; as well as 6 nieces and 8 nephews.

Walt was preceded in death by his sister: Delores Johnson, and her husband, William Johnson; grandson: Michael Fulton; nieces: Kathy Johnson and Noreen Conway and nephew: Peter Gujer.

A Memorial Service will be held in the theater room at the Edgewood Independent Living, 4125 Westberg Rd. in Hermantown, MN on September 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
