Warren Tyacke 92, of Duluth, died on June 8, 2016, at Marywood of Benedictine Health Center.
Born in Duluth on April 29, 1924. Parents were George and Gladys Tyacke.
After graduating from Central High School in 1942, Warren served in the Army Air Force from 1943 – 1946, he was crew chief for B-24 bomber training. He then went onto attend Duluth Junior College and played on their championship football team, graduating in 1947.
Warren then went onto join his family business. He became the co-owner and President of Zenith Spring Company, as well as co-owner and Vice President of Duluth Spring Company until his retirement in 1981.
In 1950 he married Barbara Johnson and they had 65 wonderful years together, and raised their four children. Warren and Barb enjoyed travel, and made trips to Europe and Scandinavia. They also spent part of each winter in Florida and Arizona.
He was a member of Chester Park United Methodist Church until it closed in 2012. There he was a trustee, president of the Men’s Club and organized the roast beef dinners. Presently, he was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Warren belonged to the following service organizations- Lake Superior Masonic Lodge #349 (50 Year Membership Award); Scottish Rite of Duluth; Aad Temple Shrine (35-year membership pin); and West Duluth Lions Club. He was a past member of Northland County Club, the Duluth Curling Club, and several walking groups.
One of his interesting hobbies was building and flying radio controlled model airplanes; he was a lifetime member of the Duluth Radio Controlled Model Airplane Club. Warren was also a member of a couples’ bridge club, and an avid cribbage player. He also enjoyed many annual fishing trips to northern Minnesota with family and friends.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary; and brother, Bruce.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; son, Steven (Linda) of Wayzata, MN; daughters, Kathleen (Trevor) White of Sun City, AZ and Jennifer (Joe) Dansby of Eagan, MN; and seven grandchildren, Sara, Ryan, Katy, Molly, Jake, Jared, and Bryan; and 4 great-grandchildren, Noah, Madelyn, Lincoln, and Aria.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to all of Warren’s caregivers at Keystone Bluffs, Marywood of Benedictine Health Center, St Luke’s Hospice, for their excellent care and compassion, and special thanks to Tammy Nelson and sister-in-law Darlene Johnson for their gracious help and support.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to First United Methodist Church of Duluth, or the Scottish Rite Childhood Language Disorder Clinic.
