Wayne W. Daley, 86, Sartell, MN (Formerly of Duluth, MN), passed away peacefully at The Legends of Heritage Place, Sartell, MN on Friday, February 12, 2016.
Wayne was born July 7, 1929, the third child of William and Lucille (Layman) Daley at the Daley farm in Cogswell, ND. He attended school in Cogswell, graduating in June 1947. In January of 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War 1951-1955, as a medical corpsman, stationed at several bases around the country.
He met Louise Ciurleo at her sister Rosemary's wedding in Duluth, MN and they were married shortly after on June 26, 1954. They moved to Great Falls, MT to complete the term of his service, and lived there until 1955 when they moved again to Grand Forks, ND so Wayne could attend the University of North Dakota from 1955-1957. He transferred to Creighton University at Omaha, NE in 1957, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
Wayne continued his education at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and received his Masters Degree in Public Health.
They moved to Duluth in 1965, when he took a position with the St. Louis County Health Department, and shortly after a position with the University of Minnesota-Duluth as the Director of Housing. In 1970 UMD started a 2-year Medical School and Wayne took a position as Assistant to the Dean of Medical School. In 1976 he was promoted to Assistant Dean of the new School of Medicine and retired from that position. Wayne and Louise raised 4 children in Duluth who moved on to other cities in Minnesota, but always considered Duluth their home.
Wayne kept himself busy in retirement by doing many beautiful woodworking projects and driving school bus part time. When Louise, his wife of 53 years, passed away in February 2007, he moved to Sartell, MN to be closer to his children.
Wayne will always be remembered for being a loving father who had a quick wit. He looked forward every year to the annual opening fishing trip with the guys, and the big family gatherings at their home in Duluth at Christmas.
He was preceded in death by his wife Louise, his parents, brother Charles, and sisters Madelyn Christianson and LaVerne (Mern) Qual.
Wayne is survived by his four children, Lisa (Mike) Berezni, Thomas Daley, Denise (Stephen) Prozinski, Sean (Jenny) Daley; five grandchildren, Annalie Norlander, Rachael Prozinski, Matthew Prozinski, Victor Daley, Zoe Daley, and his sister Joyce (Gene) Cortese.
