William Charles Clark died of natural causes on March 19, 2016 at the Veterans Home in Silver Bay Minnesota. He was 91 years old. He was born on July 23, 1924 to Alta Mae Jones and John (Jack) Clark in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He had no siblings.
He attended St. Louis Park High School; where he excelled in sports and went on to attend Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota, but his college career was cut short by the outbreak of WWII. He enlisted in the US Army in July of 1943 at the age of 19. He served on the European front and fought in many battles, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded three times and received two purple hearts before his honorable discharge in January, 1946.
He was a businessman and an entrepreneur. Throughout his life he maintained a love of learning and was a voracious reader. He enjoyed lively conversation on historical topics. He loved to travel, especially in Europe and made several trips to France and Belgium, retracing the steps of the many battles that he had fought. He especially enjoyed the small villages in France where he was welcomed as a war hero.
He was a generous father and grandfather and was always there to help. He is survived by his daughters Anne Clark, Martha Glynn, Sarah Hardeman, Mary Cardenas, Elizabeth Clark, and Elizabeth Sobczsak, as well as his many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the Silver Bay Veterans Home for the excellent care and comfort they provided him during the last days of his life.
Visitation will be 10AM, Wednesday, March 23, 2016, until the time of sharing starting at 11AM in the Dougherty Funeral Home; Interment will be at Park Hill Cemetery following the service.
