Captain William T. Rogers, age 96, died on January 10th surrounded by his family. William (Bill)
was born on December 6, 1927, to Theodore Rogers and Margurite Blake at St. Mary’s Hospital
Duluth, MN. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1946. Bill worked on the great lakes.
from 1946 to 1996. During this time, he started as a third mate and worked his way up to
captain, piloting foreign ships across the great lakes. Besides working on the great lakes, he
enjoyed spending time at the cabin, going to dinner with friends and working on his model
railroad. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in the Duluth Heights, the Duluth Elks Lodge
#133, the National Shipmasters Association, the Duluth Harbor Club and the U.S. Merchant
Marines.
Bill married Darlene Rehberg in 1952. Darlene died of injuries from an automobile accident in
1967. In July of 1976, Bill married Faye Sylvester. They were together until Faye died in
November of 2009.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Margurite, wife Darlene Rogers, wife
Faye Rogers, and granddaughter Ashley. He is survived by his daughter Margaret Rogers,
daughter Chris (Brent) Paulson, granddaughter Kindra Edberg (Shelby), and grandson Philip
(Dylan) Paulson.
The family would like to thank hospice nurse Brandy, the staff of Keystone Bluffs, the staff of
Solvay House, and his many friends at Keystone Bluffs for their friendship and support.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday Jan. 16, 2024, from 10AM until the 11AM Funeral Service at
Dougherty Funeral Home. The burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty
