William Rodney Youngren, 83, of Hermantown, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospice Unit.
Bill was born January 7, 1930 in Duluth to Alfred and Winifred Youngren.
He was a 1948 graduate of Denfeld High School, where he met the love of his life, Marjorie Schilla. Bill and Marjorie were married on June 20, 1953. He graduated from the U of M with a degree in Civil Engineering. Bill served his country as a Lieutenant in the US Navy.
Bill was co-owner of Duluth Steel fabricators, a company his two sons now operate. He was member and former director of the Duluth Builders Exchange; he was a Registered Civil Engineer; life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and member of the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers. Bill was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church; served on the Hermantown School Board and the Hermantown Utility Commission and shot trap at the Jack Meade Gun Club and he was a member of "Gym Gang".
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Winifred and his brother, Wayne and his sister, Diane.
Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie; sons, Mark and Keith (Trudy) Youngren both of Hermantown and his daughter, Beth (Keith) Kirkland of Lino Lakes, MN; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Shaun) Burgess of Waconia, MN, Leslee Youngren of Mpls, Jamison Youngren of Hermantown, Maggie (Mike) Malone, Benjamin (Megan), Alex (Samantha) and Valerie Youngren all of Duluth; Billy, Anne and David Kirkland of Lino Lakes, MN; his three precious great granddaughters, Mycah and Ashtyn Burgess and Hattie Ruth Youngren.
A special thank you to the staff at St. Luke's Hospice for their loving care of Bill.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 2415 Ensign St. Duluth, where services will be 11am Monday. Burial with military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard at Sunrise Memorial Park. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society, 130 W Superior St. Duluth, MN 55802. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, (218) 727-3555.
